Fireworks Laws and Safety
According to a report by WBTV addressing fireworks laws in North Carolina, emergency responders addressed more than 111 calls pertaining to fireworks injuries. North Carolina law prohibits certain fireworks, including firecrackers, ground spinners, roman candles, bottle rockets, and any fireworks that explode or shoot into the air. Furthermore, in North Carolina, it is illegal for anyone under 16 years of age to purchase or use fireworks, including sparklers. Sparkers, according to the report, are the most frequent cause of firework injuries to children nationwide.
For residents who are determined to light off your own fireworks this holiday rather than seeing a public display, use caution. Be aware of weather conditions and modify your recreational activities as needed. Never light fireworks indoors, or near buildings. Be aware of traffic as fireworks can distract drivers.
Fourth of July weekend is one of the worst times of the year for pets. More animals go missing during fireworks season than any other time. Secure your pets in a safe location. Make sure household animals are wearing identifying collars in case they do escape.
There’s no better time to celebrate patriotism than on Independence Day. Through fireworks, parades, picnics, barbecues, concerts in the park, and other patriotic festivities, we unite in our celebration of freedom, liberty and justice for all.
